[ It's a few hours after everything settles down that Shuichi tracks down Akira, but he's not going to not talk to him again before tomorrow. ]

Mm. Akechi-kun has mentioned a bit to me... about a world of the collective unconscious, where desires are physical things...

[purrtagonist]

[. . . a slow nod]

That's right. Those with particularly distorted desires had things called "Palaces," which were maintained by a "Treasure," which was the very core of someone's warped cognition. Steal the Treasure, and the Palace falls. When the Palace falls, the distorted desires disappear, and the wicked individual is so overcome with guilt they confess their crimes to the public.

[truthstranger]

[ It's a good thing that at this point Shuichi is beyond thinking about how little any of that sounds like a real thing that is real. ]

I see. So you were the leader of a group that induced those people to confess.

[purrtagonist]

[welcome to Persona, Shuichi]

Exactly.

It was actually through our work as Phantom Thieves that Akechi and I crossed paths.

[truthstranger]

He told me... his specialty as a detective was investigating crimes committed in that world.

[purrtagonist]

[. . . WELL THAT IS A LIE. . .]

Ah. . . well, he was the lead detective consultant on our case. . .

[partially a lie???]

[truthstranger]

[ To be fair, that was one of the things he said very early on. On the other hand, the later things were a lot of stuff about being a hero of justice that Shuichi was even more unsure on. ]

...What... happened, exactly?

[purrtagonist]

[hesitates]

You should ask him.

[truthstranger]

...He’s mentioned... in vague terms, some things. And that he’s worried I won’t like him if he’s honest. I assured him I would, but... mm.

You’re probably right. I’ll ask him... eventually.

[purrtagonist]

[a satisfied nod]

On your own time, of course.

[truthstranger]

[ He feels like maybe Akechi will have some other things to work through in the immediate future. He pushes that thought aside, though; he's just barely gotten beyond being morbid about this. ]

...I really am glad you two... are working things out, though. Whatever those things are exactly.

[ But he still pauses as he forces himself to pretend he believes this will continue to be an ongoing thing. ]

[purrtagonist]

[he gives a small shrug, gaze flickering to his lap, and for the briefest of moments there's a flash of guilt on his expression]

There are some things I wish I would've done differently with him, back home.

[realized he was being manipulated, realized who he was, cut his marionette strings so Shido couldn't have used him as a tool like he did. . .]

I genuinely want to make up for that.

[truthstranger]

That's good. I don't think you'll ever stop being an important person to him, so... the better you can do to not leave things unresolved... the better it is, probably. On both ends.

[purrtagonist]

["important person." Akira almost thinks that sounds strange. . . they've only just managed to forge an actual friendship, separate from attempted murder and actual murder of the parents of two of Akira's best friends. is it really at that point?]

. . . things were left pretty unresolved back home.

[what with Akechi dying and all]

So I'm glad I got to meet with him again. Circumstances aside.

[truthstranger]

I guess that's something good about all this.

[purrtagonist]

One of a few things.

[flashes Shuichi a smile]

[truthstranger]

[ He manages a weak smile also. ]

Yeah.

[purrtagonist]

[at least they are on the same page about that]

Speaking of the few good things that have come from this, have you taken the time to talk to Akechi yet?

[truthstranger]

We talked a little bit, yeah. He's coming over later.

[purrtagonist]

Then don't let me keep you from meeting him. I promised Ichigo I wouldn't be out for long, anyway.

[yep definitely spending the night before death with the boyfriend]

[truthstranger]

Mm, I should let you get back to him too.

[ And he does want to see Akechi, if by 'see' he means lie on for a while so he doesn't go anywhere. But leaving Akira now means...

He untangles himself and stands up, but it's extremely reluctant. ]

[purrtagonist]

[pushes himself up as well, leaning most of his weight on in uninjured leg]

Oh-- ah. . .

[right]

Thanks. For talking with me. I kind of assumed most people wouldn't want to.

[ He turns to face him properly and manages another weak smile. ]

Of course. I’m glad... I got the chance to.

[ Instead of him being dragged off to be executed immediately, which is his previous experience in this situation. ]

[purrtagonist]

[yeah, it is really nice to have the night, even if it's kind of morbid to have death hanging over his head like this]

Me too.

Just promise not to laugh at whatever ridiculous scenario they cook up with me tomorrow, yeah?
